Aeris Körper on Arts and Society:
‘PROSPECTS: an evening of dance and discussion’ is presented by Aeris Körper and is a works-in-progress platform, providing artists working in dance and performance with a space to share their work at different stages of development and receive audience feedback. Proposed works can be up to 15 minutes in length.
For this edition of PROSPECTS, we are accepting 2 purposed works from artists based in Burlington, and 2 purposed works from artists based anywhere else in an effort to support and grow the dance community this series is based in. All artists who work with movement and performance are invited to apply. All genres, forms, modalities, and varieties of dance, movement, and performance will be considered. This application is open to creators of all levels of experience. Aeris Körper will give priority to artists of colour, artists living with disabilities, new generation artists (18-30), new Canadian (immigrant) artists, and artists from varying geographic locations.
SPACE: The Burlington Student Theatre is a studio theatre and audience seating can occur in any arrangement the choreographer desires: proscenium, in the round, no seats, outdoors in the park, etc. We welcome choreography that is willing to explore non-conventional audience viewing. As this is our summer edition, we are also welcoming proposals that take place outdoors. Feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org for images of the inside and outside of the theatre.
DISCUSSION: Choreographers will be expected to talk about their work and to participate in a discussion with the audience. The choreographer will initiate the discussion with 2 – 3 prepared questions to ask the audience to begin the conversation.
REMUNERATION: Successful applicants will receive an honorarium. The amount of honorarium is pending grant results, to be received on March 30th, 2020, at which point this document will be updated.
THEME: Social Justice – This is a look at equality, privilege, society and human rights. What are the ways in which human rights are manifested in everyday lives at every level of society?
SUBMISSION FORMAT: applications may be submitted within this form, or by video or audio recording responding to each question. If you require assistance in preparing your application for the jury due to a disability, ESL, or other reasons, an Aeris Körper team member can meet with you in person to assist with compiling the application for the jury. Please reach out to Mikaela Demers at email@example.com or 647-876-7159 if required.
